At the ASM, we have a program of local speakers with advice and updates to keep you current, inspired and confident that you are able to provide safe and effective sedation service to your patients.
Friday & Saturday: ASDA Sedation Reendorsement Program (CPD: 12 Scientific Hours)
Since 2016, all ASDA Sedation Reendorsement courses have consisted of 2 days: being a blend of skills refresher workshops, and simulated medical emergencies.
After having the 2020 reendorsement courses cancelled due to the COVID19 pandemic, this year we will be focussing on refreshing skills and lots of practice in scenarios.
Can you implement BLS/ALS and ABCD protocols in an emergency? These workshops will develop the practical skills and knowledge to recognise and manage the deteriorating patient and medical emergencies. They are also very useful if you are operating on sedated patients or have already done your re-endorsement elsewhere to improve your performance in future emergencies.
The ultimate immersive experience with hi-fidelity simulation of medical emergencies, with Leardal SIMMAN3G, ALSMAN and Q-CPR resuscitation trainers, you will improve performance, teamwork and communications during emergencies.
This is an accredited refresher course for AHPRA re-endorsement of intravenous dental sedationists. (Limited to 36 participants)
Sunday: Annual Scientific Meeting (CPD: 3 Scientific Hours): 8am – 12.30pm
The Annual Scientific this year focusses on verious difficult patients and emergencies faced in real sedation practice, as a lightning rod to stimulate your thinking and understanding and is your best opportunity for CPD in Sedation in Australia.
Remember, if you are practising sedation, you need to be doing CPD in sedation!

BELISARIO AWARD DINNER – Every three years, we award the Belisario Award, which recognises outstanding contribution in Australia to the discipline of pain and anxiety control in Dentistry. It is awarded to someone who is considered to have made an outstanding contribution to some facet or facets of this field. It may be in academic, teaching, advancement of knowledge, or in administration or furtherance of the policies and philosophies of the Society. In 2015 it was awarded to Dr Andre Viljoen, and in 2018 it went to our President, Dr Greg Mahoney.
This year is a Belisario year. Come and celebrate at the Belisario dinner on Saturday night.
Nominations for future winers will be open in 2023 and can be forwarded to ASDA Secretary, Dr Angelo Preketes on firstname.lastname@example.org who will forward it to the Award committee (consisting of past Belisario winners).
We continuously update a list of potential speakers / topics of interest to our members. To add suggestions to the list, please advise Dr Robert Turnbull, ASDA Conference Convener at: email@example.com
