ASDA can also visit your surgery and provide this training in-house.
The NSQHS (National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards) Standards Guide for Dental Practices and Services (from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care) requires all Dentists and team members caring for patients to be trained annually in Basic Life Support (including CPR and defibrillation) or first aid as required.
The ADA Policy 6.15 – Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice states Dentists and their team members need to be trained in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines and Therapeutic Guidelines and have written procedures on how to deal with medical emergencies.
ASDA is continuing with its Medical Emergency Training for Dentists and their teams in 2017. We have designed the course to meet the requirements for the NSQHS and ADA Policies. It covers Basic Life Support and First Aid for those emergencies which can occur in the Dental Practice.
This protocols used mirror those for Dental Sedationists, with algorithms and flow charts based on the Therapeutic Guidelines (Oral and Dental) and Australian Resuscitation Council’s life support courses, but with a skill set which can be maintained by general dentists and their teams and be implemented in the dental surgery. This is medical emergency training by dentists, for dentists.
If you are a sedationist working with dental teams, this is also an excellent program to equip them with the language and skills to assist you in an emergency, and competently manage the emergencies which can occur when you aren’t there too.
